Yes! Golf produces a cliff-hanger in Seville

Golf fans were treated to a nail-biting finish of the Andalusian Open on the weekend, as Søren Kjeldsen of Denmark beat Scotsman David Drysdale by three strokes – Drysdale having just taken Up a Yes! Abbie Putter literally at the start of the week.

Drysdale kept Kjeldsen under pressure all the way up the back nine, actually in the lead at 15 (demonstrating what commentators Ewen Murray and Richard Boxall agreed was some ‘very bold putting) and holding the Dane to a tied front position, even as they approached the 17th tee at -14.

Unhappily, the Scot seemingly failed to get to grips with his short irons and driver as well as he had with his new putter. A tee shot on the 18th into the left side fairway bunker, followed by a shot out of the sand and into the water left of the green brought gasps from the public gallery. Burt the unrelenting pressure he maintained on the Dane kept Kjeldsen jumpy to the last, as he 3-putted for a bogey at the end.

It must have been all the more frustrating for David Drysdale so soon after playing to 3rd place in Johannesburg in January. But in consolation, he was #1 statistically for the tournament both for putts per round and putts per Greens in Regulation. Additionally, having held his nerve so well in the closing stages, the runner-up cheque of €111,110 was 36 grand greater than he would have won, had he dropped his lead over Graeme Storm and Francesco Molinari who tied for third.

The Abbie putter is a traditional weighted blade putter computer milled from 302 soft carbon steel, with a head weight of 350 grams. The straight shaft with a slant neck hosel features a single sight line in the cavity for alignment. Abbie is available with a loft of 2.5° (Standard); Lie 72° (3° flat or upright available) in a right hand version only. It has been described as possibly the ‘softest feel’ putter Yes! Golf has ever produced and has a uniquely responsive feel off the face. During the testing process, golfers really liked the feel and distance-control the carbon steel gave them.

Also in the top 20 finishes in Seville, South African Thomas Aiken (9th) was using a Natalie, and regular Yes! Man Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño (14th) also used an Abbie.
